London – Day One, Part One: Atlanta to London

LONDON 0460

A year ago today, Missy and I hopped on a plane and headed across the Atlantic to LONDON, ENGLAND, for a week-long vacation. I had lived in Oxford back in 1998 and this was the first time I had been back to England since; this was the first time that Missy had ever visited. We had bought tickets to see KATE BUSH in London – the first and probably only time she would be performing in over 30 years. It was truly an historic, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that we were not going to miss, and since she was not going to be performing stateside, our only chance to see her was in England…so we planned our vacation around her show. The plane ride was, thankfully, uneventful. We got caught up on movies and tv shows and made the best of the airplane meals we got…

From HEATHROW AIRPORT, we took a shuttle train right into PADDINGTON STATION, which was just a few blocks from the hotel we booked for the entire week. The TUNE HOTEL is a chain of budget hotels where you only pay for what you need, so you can fine-tune how much you want to spend per night. So, if you don’t need the internet, you don’t have to pay for it, and so your stay is cheaper (we paid for internet). Besides price and proximity to the train and tube station, we also picked the Tune Hotel in Paddington because of the 24-hour TESCO across the street…if we needed food, medicine, toiletries, etc. we could just pop across the street any time. When we got to the hotel, we quickly settled in and then crashed for a couple of hours…

Of course, we had to check out the PADDINGTON BEAR store in Paddington Station:

Our room was tiny, which was okay since we weren’t planning on spending much time in it, except to sleep and shower. The room was clean and air conditioned and that was all that mattered:

Missy couldn’t even jump on the beds for fear of hitting her head on the ceiling. PRO TIP: We had read on the hotel reviews that if you wanted a slightly bigger room at the Tune Hotel (and probably any hotel, actually), then opt for one with double beds rather than one with one single big bed:

Our internet pass word was…interesting:

After the excitement of finally arriving in London, we rested up for a couple of hours before hitting the streets in earnest:
