Occupational Hazards 27

WORK 0568_n
(Image taken from Missy’s Instagram a couple of months back – a “mood board” in the Art Department at Anna Griffin, INC.)

It’s been exactly 3 months since Missy started her new job with ANNA GRIFFIN. New job, old career – Missy went from product design to catalog design with our old company, and now she is doing BOTH at the new company. I am, on the otherhand, still with the old company. For Missy, the transition was easy. Partly, because there was no break between jobs…she left her old job on a Friday and started her new one the following monday; and partly because she is pretty much doing what she had always been doing at her old job of 10+ years: designing product. Except, now, she’s designing stationery instead of “balloons and coordinating gift items”. But mostly, the transition has been easy for her because the new team she joined welcomed her with open and loving arms…so much so that she feels like she’s been working with her new co-workers for-like-ever.

As for me, I miss having my best friend literally, right next to me (at one time, Missy’s cubicle was right next to mine). And even though it had been over a year since she was my office neighbor, it was still nice knowing that she was just down the hallway in another department. It made our lives incredibly convenient, to say the least. And fun too…though, being the professionals that we are, we kept it in BUSINESS MODE when we were at work. It’s not like we were running rampant through the hallways or making out on the copy machine every chance we had. Geez. But, we were always RIGHT THERE for each other, through thick and thin. I miss that. But who knows. Maybe someday we’ll be working side-by-side again. If there’s one thing that I know for sure it’s that, in life, “you never know for sure”. TRUTH. A year ago, if you would’ve told us that Missy would finally have her DREAM JOB before the end of the year, designing stationery and crafting supplies, we would’ve told you that you were absolute crayballs.

BALL 0572

In other news, my RUBBER BAND BALL is coming along nicely. Slowly, but nicely. Every week I get the PAYCHECKS for the Art Department where I work at and then distribute the checks to all the designers. Anyways, the checks come in envelopes that are rubber-banned together when I pick them up from our department’s mail slot in the mail room. Every week, I pick up our paychecks and then I add the rubber band to the ever-growing ball. I started the ball sometime in 2007 and I’ve been incrementally and compulsively adding to it week after week after week after week…it’s slightly smaller than a RAQUET BALL at this point? If I am SISYPHUS, then this ball is my reminder of an eternity of futility…

Weekend Wind-Down #181

WKND 0197

Yesterday, Missy and I took her Toyota Yaris (“THE BEAST”) to the local dealership for an oil change. Missy had been commuting to her new job with ANNA GRIFFIN in Atlanta for the past 3 months now and it was high time for The Beast to have it’s fluids checked and tires rotated. I brought a magazine (and my camera) to keep me occupied, knowing that we might be waiting for a little while…

A salesperson there passed out these PAPER TOKENS to everyone patiently waiting for their cars. The fake money worked in their vending machines and I ended up getting some HOT SAUCE-FLAVORED POTATO CHIPS…not something that I would normally get or ever had before…but the novelty of the experience was too much for me to bear (they weren’t terrible…very spicy, though!)

After the oil change, we headed over to MICHAEL’S for some art supplies…Missy wanted a small CUTTING BOARD that could fit in her purse, so that she could work on her tiny paper-cut silhouettes during her lunch breaks at work…

Speaking of work, Missy was scheduled to go to work earlier today, ON A SUNDAY, a day she usually has OFF. BUT…her boss, knowing how far Missy has to drive to work everyday, actually let her TELECOMMUTE instead. How cool is that? Missy ended up working at home today for several hours, sending her designs to her art director for critique via DROPBOX. Missy and her co-workers were all scheduled to work today because they have to pitch a bunch of new STATIONERY DESIGNS to TARGET, one of their biggest clients. Their deadline is coming up and they wanted to get a jump start.

So, after going to Michael’s yesterday, we headed across the parking lot to TARGET to look at their current line of cards for inspiration. Anna Griffin’s signature look is based on antique Victorian imagery, but they also do original designs for other clients. The line they do for Target is called “ALWAYS ANNA” and is based on more contemporary and trendy looks:

Cookie Swap!

MERINGUE 0425

Missy and her new co-workers at ANNA GRIFFIN, INC. had a cookie swap on Monday. A couple of days before, one of her co-workers said that she could only have gluten-free cookies, so Missy decided to try her hand at making gluten-free MERINGUES.

Using an EMERIL LEGASSE recipe she found on-line, Missy went to work. Turns out that meringues are fairly easy to make…it’s just that they take a while to make, because the cookies need to cool slowly in the oven, otherwise they crack. We made a test batch of small meringues first and…they turned out pretty good! So Missy mixed up and piped out bigger, fluffier cookies…

Good thing Missy made those fancy meringues too, because the folks at Anna Griffin…Woo! Their homemade cookie game is on point! So much variety, so much tasty yumness. By the time we thought to take photos of Missy’s COOKIE HAUL, we had already eaten half of them:
