Weekend Wind-Down #185

GRIT 0677

The Friday before last, we had dinner at THE GRIT in order to get a better idea of how much art work Missy would need to bring the following weekend for her art show…

GRIT 0675

After dinner, we spent some quality time with the pets before passing out in bed…

The following day, after running our usual Saturday morning errands, we started to crave Indian food, so we went to A TASTE OF INDIA for their lunch buffet, where we stuffed ourselves with pakoras, samosas, and biryani…

Later that night, we headed over to FEDEX/KINKOS to pick up some art work that Missy had scanned and copied onto a FLASHDRIVE. The pieces were too large to fit on her own scanner, so we took them to Kinkos where they had a large format one. We neglected to bring a flashdrive with us, so we ended up buying this cute little “DJ OWL” flash drive there…

We capped the night off with a quick stop at EARTHFARE to get some cat food. It wouldn’t be a proper Weekend Wind-Down post if I didn’t post at least one shot of Missy in the middle of some aisle somewhere…

In the morning, we had breakfast with our friends, Cindy and Quinton, at their house. Then, later that day, we had dinner at CALI ‘N’ TITOS. We endured their usually long line just to savour a bite of our favorites: warm tortilla chips with a side of their signature pico de gallo, and an order of vegetarian tacos…

Weekend Wind-Down #184

WKND 0353

After running our usual errands on Saturday, we stopped for a quick lunch at local fast-food noodle joint, TIN DRUM. We can usually count on Tin Drum for a reliable meal, but the basil spring rolls that we always get were terrible – they seemed like they had been sitting out all day, when usually they are made to order (their lo mein was good, though). Sooooooo…to make up for our disappointing lunch, we decided to treat ourselves to desert at CONDOR CHOCOLATES, the hip GOURMET CHOCOLATE “BAR” that recently opened up here in town. It was crazy crowded but Missy managed to snag us a couple of seats at the bar while I stood in line to order up a hot chocolate, some sipping chocolate, and one of their CARAMEL SEA-SALT BROWNIES…

We greatly admired Condor’s countertops which were made from RECLAIMED WOOD FROM A BOWLING ALLEY…you could tell because they had the tell-tale BLOWLING LANE GUIDE MARKINGS inlaid in the wood still:

Feeling a bit guilty after our decadent snack, we decided to take a brisk walk through near-by MEMORIAL PARK and the BEAR HOLLOW ZOO in a vain attempt to gain back some dignity:

We watched as a tour group stood around to watch one of the zoo employees hose off Turkey Turds from the roof of a little shelter in the wild turkey / deer enclosure:

After the zoo, we made our way down to the Memorial Park lake, where we fed the ducks and walked several laps. Along the way, Missy gathered TINY PINECONES for some woodland-inspired terrariums she will be working on soon..

Most of Sunday was spent in our DINING ROOM, here at Rancho Cocoa. We listened to music while we worked at opposite ends of our cluttered dining table. Missy worked on a bunch of brand new illustrations for an art show that goes up in a couple of weeks…

Thirty-one apples down the hatch for the month of of January. So far, so good. Only three-hundred and thirty-four more apples to consume! Again, eating the apples has been the easy part…it’s the photographing and actual documenting part that’s been more of a challenge.

One month down and I still don’t know for certain if an “apple a day” is having any profound effects on my health. I will say that I’ve made it through cold and flu season relatively unscathed so far…so perhaps the extra vitamins and anti-oxidents have helped to ward off the nasties? Though, it could also just be my religious devotion to hand-washing and using healthy dabs of hand-san that has kept me pestilence-free…who knows. Probably a bit of column A and a bit of column B. Either way, more apples are in my future. Hopefully, I can keep at it for another eleven months…
