Old Enough To Know Better, Young Enough Not To Care

HEY! Today’s my BIRTHDAY! I just wanted to share my BIRTHDAY CAKE with y’all…couldn’t think of a better “over-the-hill” cake topper than HANS MOLEMAN, from the SIMPSONS…”I’M 31 YEARS OLD!!!” I’m an “old soul” though, so I was born over-the-hill, natch!

Also took a bathroom selfie early this morning…here I am all bleary-eyed and slack-jawed, trying to suppress a yawn…mid-week birthdays are hard, yo!

Missy At The Grit

ART SHOW 1381

Missy has a solo ART SHOW at THE GRIT, Athens, Georgia’s world-renowned vegetarian restaurant. Her artwork will be up until March 8th, and if you’re anywhere near here, you should come check it out!

Even though Missy booked the show last summer, work only began in earnest about 3 weeks ago, after scrapping some of her original ideas and starting over almost entirely from scratch…

Missy decided to supplement her show with some original COLLAGES she had hanging up in the LET IT BE yoga studio out in Watkinsville:

Since her PAPER CUT SILHOUETTES always get a great response, Missy decided to bust out a handful of them for the show…

The Sunday before last, we showed up at The Grit between their lunch and dinner service to hang up the show. We had a two-hour window between 3pm and 5pm to get everything up. It turned out to be a lot harder than we thought. Luckily, Matt, who books the shows at The Grit, was there to help hang art. While we started hanging art in one room, Matt started in on the other…

About half-way through, it became apparent that we were going to run out of HANGING WIRE, so I ran out to the HOME DEPOT and bought out the last of their stock. I made it back to The Grit with 30 minutes to spare and we JUST BARELY got the show hung up before the first of the evening’s customers came through the door…

One of the first people to come in was NATHAN and his mother, Catherine. Nathan is a HUGE TOFU BABY FAN and he wanted to show Missy his HANDMADE SCRAPBOOK that he uses to collect Missy’s weekly Tofu Baby comic strip that appears in our local culture and entertainment mag, FLAGPOLE MAGAZINE. Nathan decorated the front of his scrapbook with a great drawing of Tofu Baby up on a roof, looking like she’s ready to go down the chimney Santa-style! Missy and Nathan had a nice little conversation while she autographed and drew on the back of his book. It was a real honor to meet him!

Much to her surprise, Missy ended up selling three pieces that opening night! So, between the sales and meeting Nathan and seeing his awesome collection, it turned out to be a brilliant evening…
